Brain Functions

Our unique brain training program targets the following brain functions

ATTENTION/FOCUS: The process of focusing on something specific and filtering out as many distractions as possible. Think about watching TV when your significant other asks you a question and you have no idea what they said - now that’s attention, but attention to TV not your spouse!

WORKING MEMORY: The ability to keep information in your mind for a few seconds. For example, if you just met someone at a party, you will use your working memory (hopefully!) to try to keep their name in your mind so that you can recall it a few seconds later when you have to introduce them to the next person that walks up.

EPISODIC MEMORY: Commonly known as “long term memory." This is the process of storing information for later recollection. For example, the memory of what you had to eat for breakfast, the memory of your boss’s name, or the memory of making plans to go to dinner tomorrow.

MULTITASKING: Switching attention between tasks. Repeat: switching between tasks. Multitasking is not doing multiple things at once, which is what most people believe our brain is supposed to do (our brains are actually very bad at doing multiple things at once).

MENTAL SHIFTING: Commonly known as “mental or cognitive flexibility.” This is brain’s ability to adapt to new, changing or unexpected information and plays a very important role in learning and problem solving.

VISUOSPATIAL FUNCTIONING: Generally, this refers to how your brain and eyes communicate. You use this function every day, such as when driving or parking a car or when you are mentally retracing your steps to remember where you left your phone.

MINDFULNESS: Mindfulness isn’t technically a cognitive function, but it’s important to brain functioning and health. It is the ability to tune out distractions and remain present.
