There is No Magic Pill

When I taught undergraduates Psych 101 there was a chapter on Health Psychology. In the chapter, there was a specific line that stood out to me. To paraphrase: if there was a magic pill that helped you sleep better, have more energy, feel happier, improve memory, focus, and attention, reduce your chances of developing diseases, and lose weight, would you take it? Everyone in the class would respond with a resounding yes. The trick? There is no magic pill. What I just described is physical exercise.

The Science

For decades scientists have understood the amazing benefits of physical exercise. And most people are familiar with core components: heart health, more energy, great abs. But it goes way beyond that. Especially it relates to your brain.

Simply exercising 30 minutes per day (assuming your heart rate is getting above 120 beats per minute) does wonders for brain health (e.g., improving focus/memory, boosting your mood, reducing stress, etc.).

So About That Magic Pill…

Human motivation rests on the “why.” Imagine the toddler in you. It’s hard to get kids to do something unless you are able to get them to understand why it is important for them and how it benefits them. We hope that by providing you with more information, based in science, on why exercise is way more important than just great abs, your inner toddler is excited for that next set of push-ups. And while we hope you join our brain training program, which includes physical exercise, no matter what exercise routine you chose, we’ll happy to know you’re getting moving and keeping your body and brain healthy!
